08:18 AM ET 10.26 | Adam Silver has a tough act to follow in David Stern, who while helping grow the NBA also added fuel for his critics and filled reporters' notebooks. And sometimes he just never allowed this game -- the only one that has a genuine soul -- to speak for itself. Still, the league always came back, and as [Stern] opens his 29th season as commissioner, it is more popular than ever. That's why his successor, Adam Silver, turned to him Thursday and issued this proclamation: "You'll be remembered as the best of all time." Maybe, maybe not. Personally, rankings aren't our thing. We just hope that history's arbiters, who have bashed Stern's legacy to pieces these last few years, will at least consider it.

Stern the greatest commish ever? Hardly!
Michael Chiklis was clearly the greatest Commish ever!
Stern has made the league nearly unwatchable. From the crybaby superstars who complain when they don't get ridiculous superstar calls to the bling-bling-me-first attitude of today's "stars" I can't stand what the league has become.
I understand it's about entertainment, but I'd like to see it go back to when it was a sport. With athletes competing against athletes. Not crybabies like DWade and LeBronna who flop and flail all over the place.

Expansion arguably watered down the league...not to mention this ridiculous rule about making players stay 1 year in college..what a joke this clown is! He rode MJs fame, a monkey could have said put 70 Bulls games on tv a year

He's rich as ****, a direct result for running the NBA for 30 years, should we really give a **** if he's not around any more? The next guy gets his opportunity to become rich also and retire.
