There was also padding -- a "pillow," he called it -- and carbon fiber plating near the front that was ripped on one side, courtesy of Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. A hyper-extended big toe, one Scott suffered in Week 3 against the Dolphins on the second play of the game, has forced him to take every measure to box in the massive, swollen toe which is not entirely in its socket. ... Typically, the injury carries a three- to four-week resting period to heal, similar to turf toe. Scott, who has a streak of 119 consecutive games played, has been playing on it ever since. ... Sunday, though, may be the first game a Rex Ryan-coached team has played without Scott at linebacker.
