Stern denies charges he vetoed Van Gundy's job at ESPN

01:08 PM ET 10.26 | It's stories like this that are going to make us really miss David Stern. You will recall the long-standing tiff between the NBA commish (aka the Dark Lord) and former Magic coach Stan Van Gundy (aka SVG). The skirmishes in that war go back many years, but the latest fracas involved reports of Stern putting his imperial hammer down SVG joining the ESPN broadcast crew. Shockingly, Stern denies the report: "Originally, it appeared that Van Gundy was on his way to joining ESPN's broadcast team, for whom his brother, Jeff, also works. But when those plans were abruptly scuttled, Jeff Van Gundy told USA Today that he suspected the NBA had intervened and urged the network not to hire Stan Van Gundy, a frequent and vocal critic of commissioner David Stern."
