03:23 PM ET 10.28 | There is some good news for South Carolina Gamecocks running back Marcus Lattimore. The junior running back is expected to work his way back to the field and play football again. Unfortunately, the injury could keep Lattimore out of football until 2014. Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier announced the news today along with news that Lattimore suffered a dislocated knee cap on the hit - not that we really needed confirmation on that account. "We're optimistic his football days are still ahead of him," Spurrier said. "There is a history of guys coming back from this. The prognosis is he can come back and play. It's going to take some time, of course." Lattimore eligible to redshirt this season after his gruesome knee injury suffered against Tennessee on Saturday.

Too bad! He would have probably been a first round pick but after two surgeries in two years teams might not want to take a chance on him particularly in the early rounds of the draft.

That was gruesome. I hate it when they show that crap over and over again. Too bad, too. The kid had a bright future. Not that he still doesn't, but with his injury issues and severity of the injuries that he's had, NFL teams tend to shy away from that type of thing.

Serious questions and not making any accusation. 1. Would the injury have been as bad if the Vol player had wrapped him up instead of driving a shoulder into his legs? 2. Why drive into the legs like that instead of tackling him?

If McGahee and Gore can have successful careers in the NFL after suffering devastating knee injuries in college then so can Lattimore.

Especially the degree part. Not sure how much of a career he'll have in the NFL after that knee injury.
