Colts thinking playoffs

07:59 AM ET 10.29 | Playoffs?!?! [The Colts] are an amazing 4-3. And they are showing signs that maybe, just maybe, it's not so ridiculous to be using the "p'' word -- playoffs -- while referring to this group's ultimate fortunes. They were supposed to be one of the worst teams in the NFL, a team that would be lucky to win two or three games. This ink-stained wretch picked them to win five, maybe six. Well, look out. They are getting better and they are getting healthier, and with their first road victory -- a 19-13 come-from-behind overtime job over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday -- suddenly the playoff talk doesn't seem quite so outlandish. ... [Suddenly], the impossible -- the postseason doesn't seem so impossible, after all.

They might as well... It isn't like the middle of the AFC pack is distancing themselves.

All leading up to the ultimate scenario: Indianapolis traveling to Denver for a playoff game.

Right. At this point, I'd say the Steelers or Ravens will get one wild card, but the other is totally up for grabs.

It may seem a bit premature, but next week's game against the Dolphins has playoff implications for both teams right now.

Not going to make the playoffs but Luck is quietly sneaking up on RGIII for ROY.

I dunno... Let's take a look. Beat the Packers. Hmm. Okay, that sounds like reason for excitement, except that the Packers were dismal and not clicking until after that game. Still, nice win. Beat the Vikings. Okay, that turns out to be semi-worthy of optimism. Beat the Browns and the Titans. Meh. But what's this? Lost to the Jags and the Jets? Don't worry too much about plane tickets to playoff games yet. Still a long way to go from here to legitimacy.

It could be argued though that the Colts have had a softer schedule than the Skins so far.

And the Colts lost their head coach just three weeks into the season. I think it evens out.

I have been pleasantly surprised with this years Colts. It would be great to seem them make the playoffs this year!

October 29, 2012  12:03 PM ET

Manning and Luck's teams are both 4-3. who would've thunk.

The Colts were 2 -14 last year, then dumped all the veteran talent except Reggie Wayne. That might have been a shrewd move because it means that Luck was coming in to a situation where "we are all rookies and no-names together," rather than having to deal with Peyton's old crew always thinking that "Manning would have made that throw," or "Manning would have spotted that receiver." But playoffs seem more like a dream than a realistic expectation for this year.

Tannehill for Miami is another rookie playing well ; I am looking forward to the game. I'm guessing Dolphins win it, but it should be fun to watch.

Who says the Colts won't make the playoffs. They are getting better every week and they're in the thick of things right now.

Pocket QBs have longer professional lives than run-pass QBs. III will be out of football long before Luck.

Dead serious. If anything Andrew Luck has been thrown into the tougher situation.

Robert Griffin III went to a better team, with a better roster, with a better coach - who is still coaching right now.

Andrew Luck went to what was the worst team in the NFL last year, surrounded by a roster which most people considered one of the worst in the league, coached by a defensive minded head coach for the first three weeks of the season, followed by an interim head coach through today.
