08:06 AM ET 10.29 | Thanks to injuries, Eddy Curry has found a prime gig. [Curry] figures to embark to Los Angeles on Monday with his new Mavericks teammates as the team's starting center. Considering he's had a grand total of 25 minutes of playing time going into the season opener Tuesday, it's not the ideal situation. But it's all the Mavericks have at the moment. Chris Kaman still wasn't able to scrimmage Sunday and it looks unlikely that he'll be able to play against the Lakers. "There was a sighting. It was brief," said coach Rick Carlisle. ... [Curry] had 11 points and seven rebounds in 25 minutes Friday against Charlotte. "He's doing OK," Carlisle said. "He's a force in the paint offensively. We'd like to get him more active defensively."

It's good to see something good coming out of Curry. For himself and the many people he supports this is welcome news. On the other hand I can't help but wonder why Mark Cuban of all people is paying Eddy when Knicks, Heat and Spurs have all given up on him. I really hope this turns out to be good and long lasting for Eddy. Hopefully his legacy will change from the first player that ate himself out of the league to a sweet comeback story.

QUOTE(#2):

Mavs are decimated on their frontline. No other choice but Curry showed he is committed. He lost a lot of weight and he does have some offensive game. He is cheaper and better than Haywood.

If he's really better than Haywood that's quantum leap for a guy that's been labeled as susceptible to muscle pulls due to excess weight. Like I said before I wish him well. I won't say I am proud of him yet. He has to be a play well for a whole season and do it again to deserve my kudos...

Solid post and I agree.I thought Eddy would have a good year last year but he couldn't get any playing time with the Heat. I would like to see him have a decent year.

I really hope playing time helps. With Riley and Pops you don't play unless y're in prime shape. Maybe that's why he didn't get considered by those teams. Mavs seem to be a bit lineant in their playing weight requirements. I hope it works out for both parties.

I hope he makes a comeback and goes 20 points and 10 rebounds per game this season. Would be a great story.

So many negative people on here.

The fact that the Mavericks would consider Curry is an excellent indication of the piss poor job mangement has done. Apparently people have forgotten that even before he tried to eat Manhattan and "grew" to 350lbs. he played absolutely no defense, and couldn't get a board in a lumber yard. Still, there's another opportunity in Dallas; watch him bolw it.

Gotta see it to believe it...

I cannot see Rick Carlise tolerating this. We will see how this works out.

QUOTE(#19):

Curry was the odd man out w/ the Spurs even though he played pretty good. Curry is in shape and looks like he is way under 300 lbs. The Spurs had too many frontline players and they weren't about to let any of those guys go.

They say one man's Gloria is another man's wife. Curry swung and missed in Miami and San Antonio. Mav swung on Lamar and Delonte... so this is their chance to make the marriage work. Cuban and Curry... talk of match made in heaven!
