Rivera's wavering a ploy?

08:15 AM ET 10.29 | Who will be closing games next season for the Yankees remains another bit of drama in the Bronx. This is quite an intriguing little cat-and-mouse game developing between the Yankees and the high-powered agents of their closers, Mariano Rivera and Rafael Soriano -- Fern Cuza and Scott Boras. Maybe Rivera is sincere in having second thoughts about coming back for the 2013 season -- as the Daily News first reported way back on July 22. Maybe there are genuine doubts in his mind about being able to maintain his customary high quality of excellence and consistency at age 43, coming off major knee surgery. ... Or maybe this is just a ploy on his agent Cuza's part to make sure the Yankees offer him the same $14-$15 million they are prepared to pay Soriano.

It seems like every year it comes down to who wants to be the highest paid player in his position, the question here is when has the fans had enough and stop paying to watch these over paid athletics.

Next season you'll see Soriano as Yankee closer once again given that we're in payroll reduction mode and we also are mindful of our future. Mo is one year and done at best we can see right now. It would be fantastic to see him come back and save one last game as a Yankee and leave the game on his own terms.

If he has any doubts about a return to excellence he won't be able to erase them if he doesn't at least give it a go next year.

And to think, people accuse Yankees fans of having no class (or knowledge of geography, at that)... I wonder why?
