08:03 AM ET 10.30 | A few weeks from Thanksgiving, Jim Harbaugh cried fowl Monday night when asked about how Alex Smith had been feeling over the past few weeks. [Smith's] confidence was questioned, and observers wondered why the 49ers coaches were taking the ball out of his hand at key moments. Smith and head coach Jim Harbaugh said they never had a doubt. "I think it's just a lot of gobble, gobble, turkey," Harbaugh said of the reports of Smith's damaged psyche. "Just gobble, gobble, gobble turkey. That paints a pretty good picture. He's a very confident guy." And what about the fact that backup Colin Kaepernick ... didn't take a snap against Arizona? Did that contribute to Smith's performance? "No," Harbaugh said. "No, (it's) more gobble, gobble."

Gobble, gobble, turkey?

I'll admit that I'm no Twit, and I don't grace Facebook, but what segment of the population uses that phrase?

As a neophyte Twit and a seasoned Facebooker, I can assure you that neither of these platforms utilize that phrase.

Might be one of those open source terms... let's wait for Dole to comment further.

Oh, I get it. "giggle giggle" can sound like "gobble gobble" when you've been shouting all night and you're a little hoarse....

18 or 19 with three TDs? I think Smith is feeling just fine today.

You know, on Planet Harbaugh, aka Bizarro World, they say things like that. It's like what you'd say if you'd gotten hit really hard by a 2 x 4 and then were asked about Thanksgiving. For Jim, that's a normal answer.

Don't blame open source for this. Most of them are from other countries and don't even celebrate Thanksgiving. This is strictly inner circle Harbaugh stuff.

Reminds me of the bank robber on an episode of Wings who kept saying "We're sittin' in butter", as if it were the most natural thing to say.

If Harbaugh said that in response to a question I had asked, I would be inclined to edge slowly and quietly towards the door, without turning my back on him. Maybe that was the effect he was going for.

Effect? That would mean that he thought about it. No, this came straight from his warped telencephalon.
