Jackson speculation intensifies, especially in Green Bay

08:04 AM ET 10.30 | 'Tis the season for amped-up speculation, drawn out that much more by an extended trade deadline. [That] leaves us 48 extra hours to ponder the silly idea that the Rams have placed Pro Bowl running back Steven Jackson on the trading block and can't wait to dump him on anyone who calls. Well, technically, Jackson is on the trade block. Then again, who in the NFL isn't available? ... Yes, the rumors are flying, and that means there have been conversations by a lot of teams about Jackson, most notably the running-back-starved Green Bay Packers. But wanting something and being ready, willing and able to pay for something are two entirely different things. It's the difference between dizzy dreams and stone-sober reality.

Rats. The hurricane has given reporters and interns two more days to be completely lazy and re-post the same stories.

" Then again, who in the NFL isn't available?"

Well, how about Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers for starters? That writer has just earned an entry into this years dumbest statements by a sports writer. Well done.

And in other news nearly as recent, the AFL and NFL may be merging.

I don't know how long Murray is out for, but the Cowboys could sure use him. Sorry, Felix Jones just can't get it done as the main guy.

RAMS should just admit their quarterback is the bust and the only guy who consistently played well is Jackson...what you get when you let Georgia and her stupididty permeate the RAMS ranks still today......STUPID

I would check it out, but I can't afford the cut in pay

Interesting to see what they could get for Jackson. With all the speculation about Greg Jenning's leaving GB at the end of the year I'd be intrigued by a Jennings/Jackson swap if the Rams got assurances Jennings would be open to resigning. They've indicated Jackson is gone at the end of the year anyways and this could land them a top receiver.

That is a very interesting proposal you are putting out there.

The Pack seem to be doing just fine with Nelson, Jones and Cobb although Jennings for Jax is a loss for them no matter how you slice it.

If they could get Jax for say, a Round 3 pick, that would be a solid move.

There is no way the Rams would let Jax go for a 3rd rd pick and Jenning's they learned their lesson with the LLOYD debacle , If GB wants Jax you can be sure its going to cost them at min a high second round or low first . The Rams are stock piling picks and I would not want to give them any more if I were a NFC Gen manager.

Why get a running back when your O-Line can't run block to save their lives?!?!

Every time I hear of Steven Jackson, I think of what a doofus that Jerruh Jones is. The Cowboys NEEDED a RB, the Cowboys were going to draft a RB. The Cowboys had the 22 pick of the draft and Jackson was still available! The matchup was perfect. Then that ignoramus owner/GM TRADES DOWN into the second round of the draft. He drafts Julius Jones in the second round, overthinking everybody, when it was not necessary. In the interim, the Cowboys have won one playoff game. Coincidence? No it is not. When your owner/GM makes idiotic decisions as a matter of routine, you make a farce of one of the best NFL franchises of all time.
JJ's worst move ever? That whole Jimmy Johnson debacle which was clearly caused by the egomaniac owner. JJ, you've ruined a franchise. They are mediocre and huge underachievers.

Scrappy, I've been a Cowboys fan since 1972. The 1980's were difficult, the early 1990's were awesome, and the past 16, 17 years have brought on a sadness and anger. Think of how the Steven Jackson "non pick" is an example of the stupidity carried on the by Cowboys. In 2004 the Cowboys had the 22 pick, Jackson is on the board, just pick him!. No, Cowboys trade the pick to the Bills and draft Julius Jones in round 2. Was there ANY indication that Julius Jones was better or the equivalent of Jackson? No, there was not. So essentially JJ opted to make an unnecessary trade so he could draft a RB with LESS ability. Why? Why the eff do that? The answer will only make sense in the warped world that is JJ's brain. Sad.

Note that Jackson will not be traded for a player. Jackson is in the last year of his contract and will not re-sign with the Rams. He has half a season left as a Ram. Green Bay would be a great destination, but if traded will be for a conditional pick. 5th round up to 3rd round based on how much he plays for the team he is traded to.
