08:08 AM ET 10.30 | Even with max money, Houston may not be breaking their bank with James Harden. Remember, the Rockets "only" gave [Jeremy Lin] and Omer Asik $25 million apiece over three years. Yes, that third year, 2014-15, with its poison-pill provisions for both Lin and Asik -- when they each get almost $15 million apiece -- will be a tough pill for Houston to swallow, given that the Rockets will also likely being paying Harden more than $15 million that season (if my cocktail napkin math is correct), and Houston will certainly jettison some folks in the summer of 2014. Remember also, as one of my Twitterati pointed out late Saturday, the Rockets are starting a new regional sports network this year in partnership with MLB's Astros.

$15M in a year to Lin and Asik is probably worse than the Joe Johnson or Arena's contracts.

I could kind of see the lin signing- as he at least had a nice runbut asik?they are aware that he averaged in his 'career' year 3 pts and 5 boards, right?this sign is similar to NY shelling out big $ to jerome jamesyuck

My thoughts exactly...

Harden is a legitimate sixth man... but then so is Lin and Asik so what did the Rockets gain here? Is it worth paying your sixth man max money?

Hey... .Jerome had a decent playoff run against Duncan... that's what got Isaiah in love only to find out she is not what he said she was.

Harden is by no means a sixth man. He assumed a role in OKC. He's a starter in every sense of the word. It is much more important who finishes a game as opposed t who starts.

Houston was desperate. Asik is a good defender but no offensive game. They overpaid to have a center. They could have kept Camby for cheaper than this but maybe they are thinking long term. It looks like they will have a first come first served at the PF position this year. This would be the best place for an amnestied Boozer to play.. It hasn't happened yet but it is coming.
