Michigan tailbacks at a loss

08:32 AM ET 10.30 | By the most important measure, the Wolverines' offensive backfield is trending down. Michigan tailbacks had accounted for 1,081 yards by this time last year. This year: 660 yards, a 39 percent free fall despite receiving only 12 fewer carries than at this time last season. ... [Fitz Toussaint] is averaging 3.3 yards per carry on the season. He eclipsed that threshold in all but two games last year, finishing at 5.6 yards per carry. Coach Brady Hoke and offensive coordinator Al Borges said backup Thomas Rawls had earned the right for more carries after rushing nine times for 90 yards three weeks ago against Illinois. He hasn't received a carry since. ... "We need to finish blocks -- period," Hoke said.
