08:37 AM ET 10.30 | According to a source, weather again became a factor in the Winter Classic -- in this case a hurricane delaying the announcing of its cancellation. Although there was limited communication between NHL Players' Association special counsel Steve Fehr and NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly over the weekend, the stalemate between the sides continues, making it likely that the Winter Classic will be canceled. ... Since rejecting the union's trio of proposals, the league has made two rounds of game cancellations. The latest, announced on Friday, wiped out the regular-season schedule for November. A source familiar with the league's plan told ESPNNewYork.com that the league is expected to cancel the Winter Classic on Thursday, the source said.

As I already stated: I won't be shedding any tears over it. Same goes for the All Star "game."

As I've said before, the lockout is just to cover up the bad decision of having the Leafs in the Winter Classic.

Actually, the Leafs won 3 of their last 4 matchups against Detroit, and frankly, the Wings' D looks terrible. The Leafs' speed woulda been too much for Shortside & Co. to handle.

It will look even worse without Lidstrom.

Yeah, better off waiting til next year to finish off the Wings' dominance of the better part of my life.

Being a Leafs fan I'm guessing "the better part of your life" has nothing to do with hockey. :-)

Since rejecting the union's trio of proposals, the league has made two rounds of game cancellations.

Here is what I suggest.

Accept one of those proposals NHL owners but with a few refinements to save costs and to instill a better attitude towards your fans and appreciate your average 2.5 million dollar salaries we feel you are paid well enough to afford these new adjustments and pampered for too long that you have lost your perspective of how fortunate you were to play in the NHL...these adjustments we hope will give you the heart of our stars from our history by offering you a little humility and hope you all will one day be the Maurice Richards, Bobby Hulls, Bobby Orrs, Wayne Gretzky's of the future with heart and love of your game.

1) Player's will only be given an allowance for hockey sticks made of wood. Any stick above that allowance, the Player will pay for himself.
2) We will now be using ground transportation, train, bus, etc., whenever possible, IE, Toronto to Montreal and the like, instead of private jets and charter first class flights.
3) We will no longer travel using first class anywhere.
3) We will now only be using Motels for teams on road games instead of five star hotels.
4) Players will be subject to a fine for charging any fan money for his autograph.
5) Players are still welcome to receive marketing fees for NHL merchandise but well they can use team colours they may not use Team logos.
6) Players will now have to carry their own equipment to and from games.
7) We will continue to pay for your meals but will limit said meals to the daily special.
8) Players will pay for any travel and game costs for their family members to attend playoff games either home or away.
9) Players will be expected to keep their own stalls & dressing rooms the way they found them.

We feel these adjustments and cost savings will offset our costs of your demands while providing you with a privileged life style and instill a future appreciation to your fans that ultimately will be paying your salaries and contracts in the future.

The league will lose its 3 million dollar deposit.

Now that 'shortside' doesn't have 'the best GK coach in the business' maybe that flaw will be fixed

Exactly. The NHL should just cancel the season and tell the players to **** off.

The fans should ignore both and tell them to **** off collectively
