Fedorov: We're gonna die without Datsyuk

08:29 AM ET 10.31 | Pavel Datsyuk may miss Detroit and the creature comforts of the NHL, but playing in Russia for Sergei Fedorov offers something North America can't. He can play in front of his own people, who usually have to watch him on TV at odd hours. He can connect with kids. "I like to play home, for Russian fans," Datsyuk said. "They miss us, too, because we play during the nighttime [in NHL]. Not everybody can watch and work. And I speak Russian language. It's easy for me." ... "What I see off-ice, that's the Red Wings school, no doubt," Fedorov said. "Pavel's exceptional. Everybody saying, 'What you gonna do without Pavel?' My answer: 'We're gonna just die here without him.' We're gonna fight, fight, fight. But we're gonna die here without him."

And most likely the KHL will not be pleased with it either...any suggestion of any team or the league dying is automatically met with an immediate stoppage of Vodka and Caviar at the KHL Christmas party.

I think Pavel is the kind of guy who just wants to play hockey. I'd call him old school but it's not quite right.
And he knows which the best league is.
But for now he's just killing time.
