08:30 AM ET 10.31 | If it were up to Sidney Crosby, he'd be playing NHL hockey yesterday, or even some hockey more often, but his case is more complicated than most. Crosby has one season, during which he was supposed to be paid $7.5 million, remaining on his current agreement, and signed a 12-year deal worth $104.4 million in July. He also suffered a severe concussion in early January 2011 and, after finally recovering from that, missed part of the 2011-12 season because of a severe neck injury. His future earnings and recent physical problems converge in a perfect storm of circumstances to bloat the price of insurance. His agent, Pat Brisson, said that it could cost as much as $400,000 per month to get Crosby the coverage he needs.

And that's just to keep him safe from PM.

Believe me it could have been worse.

Yep, it could've been John "Three Fingers" Tortorella.

Good point. I only see one of PM's hands.

I wonder what the ramifications of Sid's remaining contract would be if he does decide to go and play outside of the NHL and suffers a career ending injury...?

That is truly disturbing. Appropriate for Halloween, but disturbing nonetheless :)

From what I hear (and I'm really not listening, it's more osmosis) players are getting injured.
Even a minor injury can keep them out over here should things resume.

It's the scariest thing I could find.

I'm not sure that answers my question though...or I missed it.

Only because I don't care what would happen to Sid should he play elsewhere and hurt himself forever.
I think it applies to all players playing over there. If you hurt yourself playing there, repercussions on this side of the ditch will occur.
And I'd hope they are severe. That'll learn them...

Does it really matter? There are plenty of players in the minors to fill any spots in NHL teams. The game will go on regardless of who gets injured or who returns.

Okay I lied.

Except it's the high end guys playing over there so their loss will be felt.
Hard to take that fringe AHLer and have him play 30 minutes a game...

Yeah, it will be felt for a little while, but eventually more star players will come along.
