04:02 PM ET 10.31 | In an interview with 790 the Zone in Atlanta, linebacker Sean Weatherspoon of the Atlanta Falcons spoke high praise of defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. Weatherspoon called Nolan 'a Christmas present' and talked about the level of respect that he has for the defense of the Falcons: "He came in and he assessed what we had on defense and what he wanted to do was put us in a situation where we could be most comfortable and make the most plays. He could have came in and switched it all to a 3-4. He could have did that, but I guess he saw something else in us. He believes in us.:

A coach who adjusts his defense to suit the players he has on hand? I don't think this will catch on; its easier to keep doing what the coach knows best, and scream at the players for not doing it right.

That's what good coaches do..adjust your scheme to fit the players you have, not the other way araound. What Mike Shenanegan did in Washington is a good example. For most of the 2000s, the redskins had a top 15 defense running a 4-3. Even when he got there, the D was pretty decent. So he decided to bring in Jim HazMat and keep that scheme, and have been good ever since. Oh wait...they didn't...because the 3-4 is so awesome and have sucked HARD the last 2 out of 3 years (they're on pace to be the first D to allow 5000 pass yards)

If he's such a great coordinator, how come he's such a journeyman? He's coached for like half the teams in the NFL, just like that **** Gregg Williams

Nolan seems to have an abrasive personality that wears thin on people, but he even made the Josh McDaniels era Broncos look like they had a defense for part of a season. This might be what puts the Falcons over the top.
