Why the Packers must trade for Steven Jackson

04:32 PM ET 10.31 | Despite popular belief, the Green Bay running game is not ok. In fact, the running game is downright pathetic. No, I don't put 100 percent of the blame on second-year running back Alex Green ??? that wouldn't be fair. Green is essentially a rookie this season after only playing a handful of games before blowing out his knee last season. The blame for the Packers' lack of success in the run game should be spread around between Mike McCarthy, James Starks and the offensive line. Green is not a No. 1 back in the NFL, and it is not his fault that he has been thrown into the position with the injury of Cedric Benson.

The SOLE reason is the offensive line, and the fact GB is NOT a running team. They only use the run to keep the opposing defense honest. That's it in a nutshell. It's called team philosophy, and nothing more. If the offensive line was good enough, then I could run for 4 yds a carry....

If the offensive line is that bad at opening holes, Stephen Jackson isn't going to help. Not that GB's doing too badly without a run game.

Makes some sense, this proposed trade...but it won't happen.

If there has ever been a back that deserved the chance to play for a winner, it's Steven Jackson. I don't think it's likely, and maybe it doesn't even make sense, but I'd love to see it happen.

Jackson just being there would help because none of the backs now impresses any offense. GB lives and dies by the pass. Packers actually have a back in Rodgers, but a work-back would save on wear-and-tear, esp. as a blocker. If GB can pull the trigger, they should get Jackson - or anybody else half way decent.

I think TT and MM need to focus on building an O-line that can open holes first, then build the backfield once the line is in place.

You're right, but a back is a quicker fix. O-line building takes time - and drafts.

When your QB is the best runner on the team you've got issues. The real underlying issue is and will continue to be, the Pack has no money. They cannot go out and get talent. They have a lot of Alex Greens on the team, people picked in late rounds available because 31 other teams passed on them numerous times but good enough to make the Packers.
I personally don't think this team makes the playoffs this year. Too many injuries due to poor conditioning and too many Alex Greens making mistakes and not playing calibre football.

Obviously you have no clue about football. Quit making comments that make no sense. Imagine that from Minnesota too. No money, that is a good one.

You obvioulsy know a lot about football. The team has plenty of money, they just don't go out and spend it on the free agent market. They keep it in house and resign players that deserve it. And look coming from Minnesota too. That makes sense now. One of the best run franchises in sports. Come one stay off of these until you bring something logical to the game.
