Turner coaching for his job Thursday

08:07 AM ET 11.01 | Playing on Thursday night places a pair of embattled coaches in an even harsher spotlight, where both Romeo Crennel and Norv Turner are under mounting pressure. Get a win and breathe life into a decaying season. Turn this thing around. Ease the weight. These coaches -- these teams -- need it. ... If the stack of losses keeps piling, it all comes pushing down onto the ice where Turner and Crennel stand. Only Spanos knows what he'll do if three straight defeats become four, if the Chargers fall to a 1-6 team in consecutive weeks, if they are left shaking their heads again on national television. He likes to wait until after a season to make a call on a coach. Perhaps a longer break before Week 10 could change his mind.

It starts at the top. Replacing Norv will not "fix" the Chargers, any more than the constant coaching changes did in the old days of the Falcons. Only when new ownership and good GMs come in can real change happen.

Spanos has been riding this out for years. The Lord of No Rings must have photos of Spanos and a tranny.

"Playing on Thursday night places a pair of embattled coaches in an even harsher spotlight,..."
A spotlight? I don't care if it's TNF, who's going to watch? Tune in "Last Resort" instead - kind of hokey, but it's got nuclear submarines and babes, and automatic weapons.
Even if it's the only game on, Chargers-Chiefs is one worth missing. I'd rather take my wife to an organic Vegan restaurant and talk about our relationship.

Ladanian Tomlison stated the other day, "Turner and management have failed Rivers".
He is right.

Got that right. Big Ben and Eli were soooo lucky in that draft. Had either of them been at SD, they would be in the same situation as Rivers.

I can not fault Archie Manning for keeping Eli away from the Chargers. It worked out very well in the long run.

It seems like Turner has always been coaching for his job everywhere he's been.

When a team gives away guys like Sproles and VJax, there's something rotten at the top.

Chargers in a tight one. Deciding factors: Qualcomm, night game, desperation. Otherwise: aloha, Norv. And please take AJ with you.

And then there's "Cassel, Quinn or Stanzi? Cassel, Quinn or Stanzi?"
As much as the Chargers seem to be imploding, there's not much good to say about the Chiefs, either.

Who gives a damn about a fraudulent coach in Norv who who should have been fired years back. He is there because he has an equally incompetent GM as his boss and they deserve each other.
AND OBTW, don't think I'm going to give that fraudulent elite QB Rivers off the hook either. To think you had mounds of Rivers supporters sayin he's better than HOF Eli........how's that story working out fa ya now buddies!

Yeah, it won't be pretty. Two near-chump teams who, knowing Denver is the division champ already, probably don't even want to be on the field. Alternate possibility: VT v. Miami? Meh.

Best, and most apt, nickname in all of sports. That clown has to have something on the owner. Even a whack-a-doodle owner like Bill Bidwell would have gotten rid of him by now.

Never been a fan of the "coaching for his job". Seriously, isn't that his profession? Shouldn't he always be coaching for his job?

Is this coming from Spanos and Smith....if not ...its all horesecrap....Turner and Crennel appear to very good coordinators offensive and defensive ...but neither seem to be able to cut it as head coaches.

How's the old neighborhood, Sarge? I heard they were starting up limited subway service today. Can they run trains under the East River yet?
