RGIII prefers not being compared to Newton

08:09 AM ET 11.01 | Robert Griffin III has made a habit out of saying the right thing, and on Wednesday he went with a team-first approach to his looming showdown with Cam Newton, to whom he has been compared since college. Though he knows he could end up in a shootout with Newton, Griffin said he has his focus locked on Carolina's defense. He also would rather play well enough to draw comparisons to more successful quarterbacks. ... "We do run similar schemes. There's a lot of similarities. But, I'd rather be compared to Aaron Rodgers, or a guy like that: someone who's won Super Bowls. You want to go out there and win, and that's our biggest goal. It's not about me versus Cam Newton, it's about us getting the win, and getting to 4-5 going into the bye week."

Completely different players...

Can't say that I blame him.

Agreed. They both play on terrible teams with terrible organizations. RG3 could develop into a good QB, somewhere. Hope he gets traded.

There is and has never been anything like The R.

Newton, himself would agree with that.

Giants fan, eh ?

Hail to the Redskins!

I like this guy. I hope the whole team picks up on his attitude and work ethic. Cam doesn't seem to be doing anything for the Panthers leadership-wise.

you should take your 'jonpeter' and ride off....

Aw, have pity on the guy. He's from Hartford, Connecticut. Even the hurricane ignored that place.

Umm, sorry RG3... but NOBODY is comparing you to Aaron Rodgers. Except maybe yourself.

Did you see RGIII's scramble at the end of the Giants game in week 7? Rodgers is good when he gets flushed out of the pocket, but that play showed that RGIII can make something happen, too.

For now, yeah, Rodgers would be the one I'd pick, but if you put RGIII on the Packers and Rodgers on the Redskins, it would be RGIII who'd be lighting 'em up.

Me either!

RGIII is a helluva a player, but the comparisons to Cam Newton are inevitable. Who's going to have a better career? Isn't that the question, because really you judge a qb not on a one year but on a body of work. Assuming they both stay with their respective teams I have to like RG's chances a little better as the Redskins do have a fairly talented team. Shame that they're stuck with Shammy but there you go.

That's right (although I think Rodgers makes the team much better than they actually are). Huge upside for III, although he has to learn to be prudent with his body. Young man's bravado might get him injured before he can accomplish what he is capable of.

RG-III, are you reading this? If so, heed well the words of this wise man.

Now here's the Cam bashers coming out in loads. Hypocrites...only last year Cam was being champion as a up and coming great QB. I agree totally with Mike Wilbon and Warren Moon, this reeks of racism and double standards. Where's the critisim of you local white boy favorite Any Dalton in year two? How about Stafford in Troitsville? Oh, what about bench warmer big contract Matty Flynn? Save the double standard and shutty!

Why is it inevitable? Because they're black? LOL

Or dumb coaches - seriously having him line up as a receiver???

Well let's see both first round picks, both Heisman winners, both played option style offenses, both famous for their running abilities as well as their throwing arms, and yes they are both black, but if they were both irish you would still be comparing them, and yeah that would also be a similarity wouldn't it?

No, because I'm white, half Jewish, half Italian, and nobodys comparing me!
