Louisville's Parker ignored dozens of Saban letters

08:32 AM ET 11.01 | Had he played for the Tide and ranked second in the nation in yards per catch, as he does now, DeVante Parker would likely have made more of an impact nationally, but he chose to ignore the SEC power's overtures. Alabama's recruiting letters came in bunches -- about five a week, by Ballard High School football coach Mike Jackson's count -- all addressed to [Parker]. ... [Jackson wondered] if the Crimson Tide had made an impression. Jackson got his answer as he cleaned out Parker's football locker when the season ended. "There was a stack of those letters probably 12 inches high, never opened," Jackson said. "Now what would most kids have done with a letter from Nick Saban? He never opened one of them."

His soul is safe. Good for you, Parker.

I know I'm losing sleep over some guy that I never heard of not coming to Alabama.

Man, think of all those c-notes sitting in his locker for a whole year!!! That would be ALOT of beer money!!

Joe, from where did Louisville's head coach come? Could this be a key to the player's decision?

Besides, Bama doesn't need half the guys they recruit...

Charlie Strong came from Univeristy of Florida. He's considered a very good coach. A lot of talk about him being pursued for "bigger" jobs. But, Louisville looks like they want to keep him.

As for needing less than half the guys we recruit. Well, we aren't Texas who can sign 25 top flight players from our state, so Coach Saban recruits a lot of players. Recruits minds are always changing and a verbal comit one day can be committed to a rival the next day. So, you keep recruiting because you just never know until the sign the agreement.

Only the dedicated come to Alabama. Only those who have their sights aimed high...who have the heart and willingness to commit to a program and work ethic that will make them successful in the present and the future. If all you want to do is play football and have fun, then you will not succeed at Alabama. But if you want an education and a future...if you want to be successful in life after football, that is the place to be. It's a place where boys go to become men.

Sounds like this kid just wanted to have fun. Too bad for him.

He was also a DC at SCAR before Zook hired him.

If Arky is smart, they will go after him. He has local ties. IMO he should jump ship out of the Big East before the Big East goes away.

Sounds nice. I heard they have double rainbows everyday in T-town too.

THIS, X 1.000!!

IMHO, Arky makes a run at Patterson and Peterson and gets told no by both. The next level to choose from is Tubbs or Strong, and I want Strong.

We'd lose him to Gump when Saban goes to Texas for $10 mill a year, but hopefully we'd have him for 3-4 years and our program would be better when he left than when he got here.

Charlie is gonna make some AD look really good sometime soon, assuming he doesn't make the mistake of hanging around L'ville too long.

So, the guy stays home and plays for the coach who is raising UL's football program. OK, then. Next.

Yes, Coach Saban is so upset that guy didn't sign with us that he's going to win a 3rd NC in 4 years just to spite him.

Parker better open those letters ! There is probably some cash in a few of those.
