03:14 PM ET 11.01 | Things have not gone well for Jeff Tedford's California program this year. And now, with a 3-6 record and three tough games still to go, the Golden Bears will be without top player Keenan Allen for at least two games, against Washington and Oregon, and possibly all three. Allen leads Cal in offense a year after finishing No. 9 in the country in receiving yards and is expected to be a first-round NFL Draft pick.

Jeff, that long road's calling your name...

So is the moving van, the guy to turn off the utilities, the realtor wanting to list your house, and the guy wanting to winterize your pool and sprinkler system.

Chances of CAL defeating any of the remaining teams on the schedule were slim to none anyway and slim just left town. But here's the deal: CAL owes Tedford and there's no way it can absorb that multimillion dollar hit AND pay another decent coach. Look for Tedford to be given a reprieve for 2013 though his 2012 record will be an abysmal 3-9. Sandy Barbour will say, "well we owe it to Jeff to see if he can turn things around" and Tedford will be the coach for next year. He will continue to ef f up as he's done for the last four years and and he will be let go then, after "working" for his money. This is CAL football, not big time football. It's too bad things turned out this way, but it's all on Jeff. He keeps making the same stupid mistakes, investing in dopes like the erratic Maynard and ignoring good players like Bigelow. The real pain for CAL fans is having to put up with this for another season.
