Tony Parker believes Spurs can win NBA title

05:31 PM ET 11.01 | Following their season opening 99-95 victory over the New Orleans Hornets, Tony Parker issued a statement that bears repeating: the Spurs are still a legitimate title contender. Parker, who knocked down the go-ahead 3-pointer with 49.6 seconds remaining, believes the Spurs belong in the same sentence as the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder, whose immediate title chances dipped slightly with the departure of James Harden. This may come to some surprise to the general audience ??? in which terms like "internal improvement" and "continuity" are prevalent when describing the Spurs ??? but a run to the NBA Finals isn't impossible, provided that San Antonio continues to score at a league-high rate, while simultaneously playing competent defense. "We are right at the top. I like our chances," Parker said. "It just depends on who plays the best basketball at the right time and at the end of the season who is healthy and who is playing their best ball."

Unfortunately no one else does.

No match for Miami.

They are def a contender. With a slightly weaker OKC, and a still developing Lakers squad the doors wide open in the west. Now if they get to the finals i just dont know if they have the right personel to beat the Heart in a 7 games series. Now if Duncan was 5 years younger, SD where are you? The one of 5 threads about the Spurms that will appear this season and you are no where to be seen. Loser

Good morning all. OKC got beat by the SA Spurs at San Antonio....by 2 points. OKC could have won if not for all the turnovers (the same thing as last year) and the rust of being their first game of the year. Even with all that going on, OKC almost won. Not too bad of a game in my opinion. Congratulations to the SA Spurs for a hard fought win.

Not bad but a win is a win. RW needs to cut down his TO.

Parker's disillusioned from either being dropped by Longaria or getting hit in the face at the club. But hey we all believe in things we don't understand. I'm sure someone on this earth thinks Lebron is handsome... there is superstition!

Spurs have as a chance as any to at least get to the title game. First step is to do well in the regular season, and they are off to a good start.

Question: what's Tony Parker suppose to say, "we're old and probably can't compete with the younger more athletic Lakers,Thunder, or Heat."

You got a point but I wouldn't call the Lakers young and athletic... they just look better because of the Knicks when it comes to age.

LMAO, but instead of the Lebron joke, I would have expected you to say "I'm sure someone on this earth thinks Gloria is sexy" hahahahahaha
