Gophers eye OSU commitment

Despite denials, people in the know say the Minnesota Gophers still could end up with Eden Prairie football star Willie Mobley, who has orally committed to Ohio State. National signing date isn't for three weeks.

Not dogs. Gophers buddy, gophers.

Report Offensive Comment

Yeah, cuz if I was choosing, I'd pick the team in the basement of the Big Ten.

Report Offensive Comment

That would be the beauty of it Miggy. OSU getting it's pocket picked by a conference scrub. Those things don't happen too often in recruiting.

Besides...would OSU really miss one recruit?

Report Offensive Comment

Willie will get to play all 4 years at MN, I bet that's something he's considering. Besides, If you goal is to make it to the NFL, you'll get spotted regardless of which team you play for. Ask Barber, Mulrooney, Utecht if they regret playing for the Gophers, bet not. Hell if anything, at least you'll end up on the better teams becuase all the supposed superstars are going to the crap teams in the NFL.

I have to agree with lazymike... this kid is from Minnesota... stay home and make a name for yourself when your the standout player on defense

Report Offensive Comment

How much is a VERBAL commitmet worth? Probably about the value of the paper it's WRITTEN on. =0

Report Offensive Comment

oh well, OSU will just go find someone else....

Report Offensive Comment

recruiting powerhouse Minnesota? You can't stop them, you can only hope to contain them!!

Report Offensive Comment

Sox,

A cat named James Laurinaitis came all the way from Minnesota and he's doing just fine at OSU. He didn't stay home, and made a name for himself, and was just a 3 star recruit. Someone dropped the ball on that one. Losing Mobley would hurt as we have been weak in the d-line since Will Smith graduated 5 years ago.

Report Offensive Comment

Not really. Vernon Gholston was arguably the Big Ten's defensive MVP last year.

Report Offensive Comment

...

... so, somebody would choose to go to a 1 win team over a national powerhouse?

Makes PERFECT sense...

Report Offensive Comment

V-Gholston was a beast and a great player, but he's more of a 3-4 defense Tweener type of player, like a Mike Vrabel. We haven't had a bulldozer type defensive end/tackle since Smith. Glenn Dorsey will go #1 in the draft and I think he showed that he is the sort of player that really disrupts offenses. Hence, Mobley is needed to fill that role.

Report Offensive Comment

Ha! I used to coach Laurinaitis in Wrestling when he was in Elementary school, he could snap me in half now!

Report Offensive Comment

Stick with OSU, I mean, how often do you get to be part of a running joke?

Report Offensive Comment

well, he could be part of a running joke /w Minnesota football too. If that's his goal, he's got his bases covered.

Plus, he'd get to play from day 1.

Report Offensive Comment

And that's why they hired Brewster, he was supposed to be a recruiting machine. He'd better be, cuz Xs and Os and motivation don't appear to be his coaching strengths.

Report Offensive Comment

Let's see. Go to last place for 4 years or NC games and big ten champs for 4 years...tough decsion

Report Offensive Comment

Were you guys National Champs this year? Last year? Don't count on anything Buckeyes.

Report Offensive Comment

No we weren't NC the last two years. But we were there. Something Minnesota never has been or never will be.

If this kid is serious about dumping tOSU for Minnesota, and this isn't just some wishful thinking by the hometown paper, then he doesn't belong at a REAL university.

You picked 3 guys in the last half dozen years that went from the University of Podunk to the NFL. The Bucks have about 3 1st rounders per year. Besides Utecht wasn't even drafted, but was a UDFA to Indy, where he was beat out by Ben Hartsock who matriculated at the Ohio State University.
