Heat dialed up on Tedford's seat

08:21 AM ET 11.02 | More bad news has come to a team that can ill afford it. The Golden Bears will be without star receiver Keenan Allen when they host Washington in the first-ever Friday night game at Memorial Stadium. ... What's more, a loss to the Huskies will put [Jeff Tedford's] 11-year tenure as coach under still greater scrutiny. He's already on the hot seat with his team seemingly headed toward a second sub-.500 season in three years. "This game is about doing the things we need to do to win a football game," said Tedford. Cal has dropped its past two games by a combined 40 points -- with Allen in the lineup. And he isn't the only member of the Bears hobbled by injury. Six players, four of them defensive starters, were considered questionable [when the week began].

What is it with sports media these days? At least 15 coaches are allegedly on the hot seat.

UW at Cal is tonight's prime time feature. Win this one before the home crowd, or it's buh bye, Teddyford.

I don't think it's bye-time for Tedford. CAL is in over its head money-wise and really can't fire the guy. I do say that there is something seriously wrong in his head, the fact that he sticks with c rap players like Maynard and benches others like Bigelow. Anyway, look for a blowout tonight. Won't even be worth one good half's worth of watching. The highlight will be sunset over the Golden Gate.

CAL owes Tedford and there's no way it can absorb that multimillion dollar hit AND pay another decent coach. Look for Tedford to be given a reprieve for 2013 though his 2012 record will be an abysmal 3-9. Sandy Barbour will say, "well we owe it to Jeff to see if he can turn things around" and Tedford will be the coach for next year. He will continue to ef f up as he's done for the last four years and and he will be let go then, after "working" for his money. This is CAL football, not big time football. The real pain for CAL fans is having to put up with this for another season

I truly understand that quandary. I do.

Of course a vol supporter would understand. UTk is paying a bunch of people not to coach right now.
