Lockout forcing owners to flee

08:27 AM ET 11.02 | On what may be its darkest day in some time, that of the cancellation of the Winter Classic, players appear to be as galvanized as ever. The league opened with a draconian proposal, budged a little and then essentially shut down the talks with its take-it-or-leave-it approach. As a result, we won???t see the NHL resume play any time soon. The impact of this latest player lockout will be profound. The fan base will erode dramatically in many markets. Some owners will opt out of the business. A team or two could move. Dozens of players will see their careers end. Others may opt to remain in Europe. ... Much of the progress made since the last lockout will be lost. Hockey will remain a fringe sport in this country, well out of the mainstream.

Run away!

November 2, 2012  08:44 AM ET

Pretty accurate.

November 2, 2012  09:20 AM ET

The owners miscalculated the players resolve.

It was.

And a great song that was used as the opening song to Crime Story..... I loved that show.

I would rather watch my son play than any team the greedy owners and greedy "slaves" are going to put on the ice when this is all over. I don't care if I ever see another NHL game. It has been ruined for me. Thanks so much.

Yup---I feel the same about the NBA, MLB and now football. I honestly cant watch more than 15 minutes on Sundays before I surf the Fios. It's ridiculous watching the chest thumping, trash talking, head butting over a routine open field tackle......

Maybe I should try that in my next meeting. Jump up in my bosses face, head butt him a few times.....

Quit while you're ahead.

I'll be watching hockey when it returns, no interest at all in kids games.

And the NFL rules.

Nope.

I know I will watch hockey again.

I know I have zero inclination to watch any sport that doesn't include predominatly adults.

And I love the NFL. 8 AM to 9 PM in season....

Shamefully I have to confess that I tried watching an NBA opener the other night...
That squeak, squeak, thump, thump...Hank.
So true.
In fact, to top it off, the color guy was praising it...
"Listen to those shoes squeak," he says.
"That means they are really cutting and digging".
Cut, flicked over the Amityville Horror.

Good for you. Glad you do.

Very good sport, killed by specialization and over zealous self promoters.

I'll assume you have a particular affinity for overweight men in tights slapping each other on the turd cutter at the conclusion of each play
