01:05 PM ET 11.02 | New York Giants safety Kenny Phillips is ready to return to the lineup this week against the Steelers. Phillips has been out for the last four games because of a sprained knee suffered against the Eagles. While the veteran safety may be ready to get back on the field, his starting job is likely to be occupied this week by Stevie Brown. A backup, Brown has made a case for the job while filling in for Phillips. He leads the NFL with seven turnovers , including five interceptions. Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell acknowledged that no decision had been made on starting Phillips over Brown. He did say that the team was considering using a three-safety package to get both players on the field.

I would like to see how a 3 safety package would work. And I like coaches who make use of the personnel they have, and get the best from them.

The way the Giants' secondary gets injured the team can't have too many DBs. But also, the coverage scheme that the Giants have been playing puts Brown in a position to make those picks - really good article the other day about the cover-one scheme and how it highlights the safety.

It sure looks that way, but I don't think so, they are about to have one of the best Nickles in the league!
