Logistics forced Winter Classic cancellation

08:08 PM ET 11.02 | All but $100,000 of the NHL's $3 million rent payment to the University of Michigan for stadium use during the Winter Classic is refundable, so why did the league cancel the game so early? It all comes down to logistics, according to NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly. An entire festival was planned for downtown Detroit and unlike previous years, preparation would have needed to be done much further in advance.
