08:14 AM ET 11.05 | USC's top-rated recruiting class took a hit Sunday, as Mission Viejo's Max Redfield announced his decommitment. The separation of Redfield from USC began weeks ago, when the ESPN 150 athlete took an official visit to Notre Dame and was blown away by the experience. Redfield posted the news of his decommitment on his Facebook page: "Going back on my word is something I never imagined doing and it hurts me to do it." ... The country's No. 37 player overall and No. 2 athlete will take an official visit to Washington on Nov. 9 and likely will schedule an official visit to Oregon as well. ... While the Trojans remain an option for Redfield and other Pac-12 programs will push for his commitment, it's likely that everyone is chasing the Fighting Irish at this point.

Don't know much about the kid but Oregon would be better than playing for Lane.

If he turns out as well as the last recruit we "stole" (i.e., Manti) it would be quite a coup

USC is a joke and ND is the luckiest program in the country.

Luck=Hard work and good coaching of smart recruits.
This young man's smarts are demonstrated by his realization that ND offers him a future that no other school can offer.

SC isn't a joke, it's a program going through a hard transition from a phony program run by a con artist coach, Pete Carroll, to a legitimate CFB program overseen by an AD who means business.
The recruiting and bowl restrictions are hurting their on-field and recruiting performance and it will be a few years before they can again field really strong teams. In the meantime, other schools are taking advantage of SC's situation.

Wow.. you would think a talented Freshman as he would know he can get early PT on that abysmal D....Redfield was one of their prized recruits... better try to reel him back in

The ability to reel them back in with Hayden running the show is not the same as it was with Garrett running the financing - errrr, I mean the athletic dept.

It's not like Lane hasn't decommitted on some people in the past. Now his lack of coaching ability is showing up and everyone is running away.
