New CBA could hurt borderline AHL talent

08:14 PM ET 11.05 | NHL rookies and young players often have performance bonuses written into their contracts, but in many cases, these players never match the triggers that would earn them that bonus money. Yet in the previous CBA, many teams used that bonus money -- money they knew likely wouldn't be spent -- to reach the cap floor. Call it creative accounting, but this loophole is something that will probably be eliminated in the next CBA. For minor-league players, this could lead to lower salaries that could force talent overseas.

as it is the average AHL salary is in the ball park of 50k. The better players that are high draft picks tend to be around 70-75k, and then the space fillers are between 30-40k. Its a pretty dismal league in terms of pay, but half the league are there because they have a legit shot at making the nhl and want to take the risk. The other half are north american kids, and whether it be that we are xenophobes or whatever, most dont take the chance of going abroad and earning a living with better conditions.

The death spiral of the NHL. You just got to love competition from every other league on earth!

Guess what?

The current lockout will hurt current borderline NHL talent. HUGELY.

If I'm those guys I'm speaking up. I won't have the oodles of brazillions the big boys will. This may be my last year.

And the average Chets outnumber the big shekel Baryshnikovs who are still scabbing even more shekels over in Lower Slobovia or where ever, to the cheers of crickets. So frig them anyway.

This whole thing is FUBAR.

Exactly where are these better conditions?
