1972 Dolphins are not rooting against Atlanta Falcons

04:17 AM ET 11.06 | When an NFL team begins to make it deep into the season without registering a loss, two things happen. First, everyone and their grandma jumps on the bandwagon, but also begin to pick the game that will end the streak. The second thing that happens is the 1972 Dolphins suddenly become relevant once again, as images of grouchy old men popping bottles with super models is unwillingly imprinted in our minds. That's because whenever a team is running with an undefeated streak, we've been trained to look the way of the 1972 Miami Dolphins and their surviving members to try and throw all they can in the path of that undefeated team to keep their claim to fame alive. But head coach Don Shula says all the hype about the members of the '72 Dolphins team being bitter old men rooting against anything and anybody that threatens their glory is all made up.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. The Falcons are good...but they aren't monsters like the 07 Patriots or the Packers from a couple years back

Mike Smith also strikes me as though he'd pully a Tony Dungy..once they secure homefield throughout, he'd probably sit his starters and say "our goal is winning a superbowl, not to go undefeated." Can't say I would really blame him given how the Falcons have always done well in the reg season and then choked during his tenure there

I would think the sweep against the Saints the toughest part. Division game are hard ones, the Saints know the Falcons and how to beat them.
