A deal is ... inevitable

08:25 AM ET 11.06 | An end may be near. We've heard that the No. 2 guys in the NHL and the NHLPA, Bill Daly and Steve Fehr, held a "marathon" bargaining session this weekend. We also learned there are plans to bring the parties together for more formal talks this week. What does that mean? I'll be bold here and say it means a deal is inevitable. One can only believe that a marathon session (with several breaks) means that Daly and Fehr had something to talk about and they were clearly checking compass directions with other key players. More than that, there obviously is reason to return to the table. They would not be doing this merely to restate positions already well known to each other.

CBC.ca? I'm guessing those ratings for David Suzuki's "Nature of Things" are slipping a tad.

If you have a timeline that begins with the start of the lockout and has an endpoint of infinity, then sure a deal is inevitable.

It's nice to see that someone in the Canadian media is willing to go out on a limb.

As Daly ,and the sibling Fuhrer, are likely to both be in charge next time the yet to be signed CBA is finished , i am glad they show signs of how to negotiate with each other.

Deal??? I say boycott the games if a deal is struck. Show both sides, what the fans think of the deal.

I still think they get a deal done around Thanksgiving just like the NBA did last year, and have a 60 game season. I think each side is seeing how far they can go to break the other side, and when the deadline for the season comes up, they finally settle on a deal in the middle. I just don't see them cancelling another season, or you can kiss the NHL goodbye and they know it.

I can't wait to see and hear Bettman get boo'd when he hands out the Stanley Cup.
He's used to it and probably won't care, but it will make me feel good.
