08:27 AM ET 11.06 | Believe it or not, there may be some goodies in a new CBA for players -- reportedly ranging from business changes to creature comforts. Among other things, the owners have proposed to 1) artificially inflate the salary cap in Year 1 so teams don't have to trade or release players; 2) trade player salary and cap charges in trades (this is something both teams and players have wanted); 3) eliminate re-entry waivers; 4) Increase revenue sharing with further increases as revenues grow, and the top grossing teams making the biggest contributions ... 5) Introduction of appeal rights ... Some other things that the players should like: ... [The league] has agreed to consider a player proposal for single rooms for all players on the road.

Now we're getting somewhere. Private rooms on road trips. Who can bring , ahem, paid dates, into a room after a tough loss and discuss a disputed cross-checking call with someone named Candy ? Everything is getting better.

The NHLPWA has vetoed this.

Private rooms...and tax cuts for players buying game tickets as well as having the owners pay for parents to attend first time games and travel expenses...

If the owners agree to honor all existing contracts and a 50-50 split in HRR, this better get resolved soon.

Speaking of which, I read that if they get the season started on December 1, they can have a 62 game season with teams playing all games within their conference. That isn't bad.

And only a 1 week training camp...that is one thing I feel that they should continue with.
There is no longer any need for those long camps with 40-50 guys looking to fill 1 or 2 spots and all those useless exhibition games.
Off season training keeps these guys in good enough shape and they can use the LONG season to bring guys up for a good look.
And thereby, start the playoffs sooner!

Not sure Dan Quinn and Mario Lemieux would have gone for this...

Good point. There is plenty of evaluation that goes on in the AHL, so reducing camps and the pre-season would be nice. Having the playoffs end in May rather than in June also gives teams more time to recover from the long season.
