02:52 PM ET 11.06 | The AFC East was well represented in a Sporting News poll asking NFL players to name the league's most overrated head coach, as the New York Jets' Rex Ryan and the New England Patriots' Bill Belichick placed 1-2, well ahead of other competitors. Out of 103 players from 27 different teams, 35 tabbed Ryan as the league's most overrated, with an additional 16 voting for Belichick. Although 17 coaches were named by at least one player, nobody else received more than ten votes, with Andy Reid from the Philadelphia Eagles, Mike Shanahan of the Washington Redskins, and Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers rounding out the top five.

not that i'm a huge fan of belichick, but he's got 5 SB rings! three as HC and two as DC. how the heck does he make this list? insane......

November 6, 2012  03:38 PM ET

another worthless survey!!!

November 6, 2012  04:02 PM ET

I'll bet those 16 players who voted for BB probably wish they could play for him.

November 6, 2012  04:26 PM ET

...but how many SB's has Belichick won since they caught him cheating? Zero.

November 6, 2012  04:55 PM ET

Kinda surprised to see Tomlin in the top 5

November 6, 2012  05:21 PM ET

Ryan is nothing but a defensive coach!!!

Totally agree. I don't like BB much at all, but I can't say that he is overrated.

For my money #1 is Ryan #2 is Whisenhunt

November 6, 2012  06:19 PM ET

The votes for BB sound like sour grapes although those for RR are dead on.

Well, BB is highly rated by most people (including me), so I suppose it is possible that he is over-rated. Rex Ryan is rated "incompetent clown" by most people, so it is difficult to see how that could be too high a rating. I guess Whisenhunt makes sense; most people think he has done okay, and his recent record isn't up to that level.

November 6, 2012  06:45 PM ET

NFL players are no different than anybody else, what we have is a list of coaches who they don't like

November 6, 2012  08:19 PM ET

So the guy with three rings is overrated? No news here, move along quietly now!

Rex Ryan, in the words of his own brother is full of ****. Mike Shanahan needs to be fired..3 years as a coach/GM and your record ain't no better than the 'ol ball coach himself, Steve Spurrier, or the "maroon and black" Jim Zorn. Not only does your coaching suck, but in the words of Bill Parcells you have "chosen the groceries to cook the dinner with" ie have had final say over personnel. Well let me tell you, what your cooking makes me puke..that 3-4 defense you forced through is in its 3rd year and on pace to be the first defense to give up 5000 yrds through the air. Ya got no recievers, O line, D line, linebackers or secondary. Please go retire to your $20 million mansion in Denver. kthnxbye

oh, and for Mangler. ..

THE JETS SUCK!!!

November 6, 2012  10:39 PM ET

maybe if rex kissed BB's feet instead of his rings (since rex got none of his own) he'd get some more respect...

November 6, 2012  11:32 PM ET

4 more years!!!

Tomlin is tied with John Harbaugh for 5th, all time winning percentage since the merger. How is that "over rated" ? BB is a good coach as well, I think he's been lucky (tuck rule) and fortunate to be in a mostly crap division for so long. Andy Reid has had the Eagles competitive for 14 years or so, that's a good coach.

Truly but since these coaches are rated highly by many people it could be that others feel they are over rated. Pretty much everybody thinks Rex Ryan is a joke which is about right, ergo I don't see how the "over rated" term could apply to him
