Schwartz praises Lions running game

04:26 PM ET 11.06 | The Detroit Lions are 4-4 on the season, and though they're not where they wanted to be at this point, they have a lot of excuses they could make. They've had injuries, and have had a rather ??? weird running game, given the status of some of their players. Jahvid Best still hasn't returned from a concussion suffered last season and his future is still in question, while Mikel Leshoure missed some time because of a suspension. Still, even with those issues, the Lions running game is performing very well. Leshour has 375 yards on the season, while Joique Bell is rushing for a 4.4 yards-per-carry average, with 189 yards off of 43 attempts. Jim Schwartz called it as consistent and productive a rushing attack he's had since he took over as head coach. The coach also credited rookie Riley Reiff for his work as a blocker. Going forward, the Lions will use a combo of Leshoure and Bell, with the former getting the bulk of the work.

Actually, the jungle cats did pretty well running against the Jags. If they can beat J'ville, the pussycats can beat anyone--as long as the opposition doesn't show up.

I could say something about the Lions telling their RBs that the football has a stash inside, and the defenders are undercover cops, but it may be time to let up on the Lions a bit. They haven't mugged anyone on or off the field lately, so let's focus on the positive. I hope they continue to play well. It would be nice to see a good team in Detroit again.
