New Nets built to beat the Heat

08:05 AM ET 11.07 | Believe it or not, the root of the Nets' transformational summer began with Gerald Wallace. He can guard three positions and anchor a small lineup. When the time comes, he will check LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Paul Pierce. He is the best hope the Nets have of becoming a respectable defensive team. If Deron Williams is the Nets' most indispensable player, Wallace is a close second. ... [Brooklyn's] first road game, Wednesday night in Miami, presents a fascinating gauge, especially if Wallace, who has a sprained ankle, is able to play. No one expects the Nets to challenge the Heat for the Eastern Conference crown, but they were built with the Heat in mind. Indeed, the Nets' lineup looks specifically designed to make Miami work.

Seriously.....did you say "No one expects the Nets to challenge the Heat for the Eastern Conference crown" and "then say the Nets' lineup looks specifically designed to make Miami work".....Nets would get sweep by the Heat in the playoffs. Stop it please.

JGB....this idea of Wallace checking Lebron, Melo or even Pierce is complete madness. You'll come to find the Nets, as presently constructed, aren't going to challenge anyone, particularly the Heat. I'm not saying they won't win a game, but it'll be more like this, 1-4 against, the Heat, Knicks and Celtics. The Nets are a paper team and paper teams don't generally translate into victories for them.

The East will come down to health. You look at the Nets and they're shaky with Lopez that's always hurt. D-Rose has bad ankles. Joe Johnson is up there in age. Knicks and Boston are so old it's almost guaranteed they will be missing major pieces come playoff time.
In that respect the Heat hold a slight advantage as their core players are in their primes. I do agree with you that Nets have a long way to go. They first have to develop chemistry and win consistently. They shdn't be looking at Miami right now... first things first...

Built to beat the Heat, but not the T-Wolves? I should say the T-Wolves without Love and Rubio. With them? Maybe.

Pekovic absolutely destroyed Lopez BTW when they were on the court at the same time. It was a thing of beauty to witness.

Why do we even entertain threads like this? Everyone is trying to design teams that can compete with the Heat. That's typically what happens when a team just won a title and is threatening to repeat.

Nets get owned by 30 to Miami....
D Will is the only real advantage and it's not that great when you consider both Wade & Battier can cross match on him...
JJ is the worst all star in the league....for a guy 6'7 he doesn't rebound or block enough.
He isn't a perimeter defender and if he is cold then he can't help you much, as shown in the playoffs where he shoots a whopping 30%...
