Big-market club to unseat Yankees as top spender

08:15 AM ET 11.07 | In one sense, the Yankees won't be the Yankees in 2013. Brian Cashman and his entourage are not big-game hunters. The only nine-figure contract they are seriously contemplating is an extension with Robinson Cano. And that is unlikely to get done this offseason. ... Also, in a radically different landscape where, for example, the Dodgers, not the Yankees, are likely to have the largest payroll in the majors next year, the Yanks get 12 more months to gauge the true state of the market. Yes, on one hand, more teams are capable and willing to spend than ever. On the other, more teams are horrified by the implications of forging mega-contracts that have generally been destructive for clubs.

Its good to see the Dodgers back in the mix. The down side is that the LA Hype machine, which is almost as noisy as the NY Hype machine, will soon become active again. But I guess it is worth the noise to have the competition.

Unfortunately, I think you are about to see more of the former vs. the latter.

Yeah, LA did well in last year's playoffs. Only up from there.

Ya think? Of course, this means we'll have to put up with 4 more years of him blaming all of his personal failures on Obama.

I didn't see any news stories in the MA papers today the would indicate PK went on a rampage.

I guess the big victory party the PK got invited to at Romney HQ in Boston was a bit of a washout ...
