08:16 AM ET 11.07 | With headlines blaring such bluster as "USC defense might be most porous ever," Lane Kiffin's D is clearly under scrutiny. [On Tuesday], Kiffin was asked whether he thought the problem was with USC's defensive scheme or the players' performance. "I think if we were to single either one of those out, and say it was scheme or execution, I'd think we'd be wrong." ... [Kiffin] was asked about his father Monte, the Trojans' assistant head coach who oversees the defense. Monte Kiffin spent 25 years as a defensive coach in the NFL until he joined his son at Tennessee in 2009. Lane Kiffin was asked if his father's NFL experience had made it more difficult for him to adapt to the spread offenses in college. "I think that's a fair observation," Lane Kiffin said.

Wow. I heard this yesterday on the radio that Monte had trouble with spread offenses, and I thought that possibly it was an issue but never thought to see Laney admit it is a definite possibility.

Dad should do the right thing and resign as DC. He clearly is not getting the job done. Not sure if he can't adjust to the college game (doubt that's it) or he has personnel problems (all the studs on offense and the leftovers on D?). Regardless, he shouldn't put his son in the line of fire. It's his defense, and it is terrible.

Coach Lane Kiffin needs to step up and be a man, If his DC is the problem then fire him, the stakes are too high, this is a big business. Pat Haden is your boss not Papa Kiffin.

To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln: "I should like to borrow Dad's defense since he is not using it."
