08:23 AM ET 11.07 | Yet another deadline may be approaching for the NHL. After cancelling the Winter Classic, the league may have returned to the bargaining table Tuesday to try and help save its precious airtime on the NBC Sports Network. The first games are scheduled to be shown in the U.S. on Nov. 23 and the NHL may be trying to get a deal in place with the players' union to keep one of its biggest backers on board before the whole season goes up in smoke. "Everybody thinks (NHL commissioner) Gary (Bettman) has a date circled on his calendar when he needs the NHL back playing games," said a league insider Tuesday. "We knew the Winter Classic was going to be an early casualty and it is. The question now is: How much sway does NBC have?"

I think their ratings have them just behind the Food Network so you do the math.

Saturday/Sunday afternoon games never made any sense...the game of the week in spring or playoff games in the middle of the day when the weather is nice are just further examples of how Napoleon is out of touch.

When I saw "Cupcake Wars" in the guide I thought it was about the Leafs training camp.

Doesn't NBC have a 10 year contract with the NHL? I can see them getting nervous about their investment.

Hear hear!!!

But with my 6 barreled PVR I can record and time shift to suit my needs with impunity. The only thing that would trip me up is a marathon multi period OT game.

I'll be out lawn cutting or tennis playing and I'll get home and quickly view a game in around an hour (or less!) and get on with real life.

post of the week so far...........:>)....

The irony of this all is that we are having this lockout because of teams like Tampa, Florida, Phoenix, Columbus, NJ Devils who cant compete financially with the big market teams, yet NONE of them are ever on NBC Weekend Games! It is amazing to me who screwed up this league is and how they just don't get it that the league would actually be better off in the long run if they had LESS teams.

Well, NBC owns all of the US national broadcast rights now. So that includes the Monday& Tuesday night telecasts also on NBCSN.

Yes, but that just means NBC is in the best position. Do you really believe the Owners want to jeopardize the revenue that this contract generates? That's a lot of US dollars.
