Goalies at disadvantage in lockout?

08:24 AM ET 11.07 | In the event of a salvaged season, Marc-Andre Fleury will have a new partner in the crease: Tomas Vokoun. There's no reason to believe that Fleury and Vokoun won't get along and won't be able to form an effective partnership, but it also should not be assumed that they will bond the way Fleury and [Brent Johnson] did. ... If the NHL and its players association are able to settle on a collective bargaining agreement in time to save a portion of the 2012-13 season, there presumably will be an abbreviated training camp. It seems unlikely that the shortened preseason would include any exhibition games, which Fleury suggested will make it tougher for him to have his game honed when he is forced to face other teams for real.

Be afraid Pens fans...the excuses are already starting!

Would this, in principle of course, not only apply to goalies but all players even if they did go overseas?

November 7, 2012  08:58 AM ET

If by "honed" they mean like in last years playoffs I think it's a good thing.

I love those jerseys!

Actually, that was fun to watch.
MAF...disadvantaged only with his cartoonish rat like looks...ironically he also is a real heart breaker in Pittsburgh.

Fleury could not stop a basketball last playoffs, and he is worried ??? The entire Pens nation should be worried ! Here is a plan Marc- START PRACTICING NOW !

November 7, 2012  10:55 AM ET

Not worried.
They rode MAF hard and hung up him up wet the last few seasons.
MAF/Vokoun > MAF/Johnson. Pens have a legit #2 that can handle #1 duty. Plus rusty goalies is going to be a league wide issue. The Pens defense last season was actually much improved, making the playoff collaspe even more baffling.

It was your PK unit that stank..that and obviously Fleury...i read somewhere that Pitt gave up a full third of their PP goals against to Philly....reg. season and play-offs combined...that # is astronomical....Philly owns your PK units.

Dont know why Vokoun has settled on being a back-up...he should fire his agent...he is a legit #1 keeper...he shoulda contacted the Oilers brass this summer...thats an up and coming program in need of a goalie.

If things are settled soon, it won't take long to seed out the lazy guys that have been sitting on their duff, while negotiations dragged on.
