01:26 PM ET 11.07 | Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Tyler Zeller suffered a concussion and a fractured left cheek bone in the team's victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. Zeller absorbed an elbow from Clippers center DeAndre Jordan and immediately left the contest. It's not clear when Zeller will return to the court, but with the new NBA concussion policy in place, chances are it might be several days or weeks. With Zeller out, Samardo Samuels will get most of the backup center minutes behind Anderson Varejao.

Take it from me, sometimes, when you get a hit just right, you don't even feel it. Having said that, when you hit someone hard enough to break something, you know it. The thing that I can't stand about some athletes (particularly basketball players) is that they know they did something wrong, but play on as if nothing happened. I watched this play a few times over and just the fact of how Jordan reached across Zeller's head and shoulders tells me he knew what he was doing. In fairness, he probably didn't mean to break his cheek bone, but he had to know that going across someone's face like that is going to make contact. I'm telling you, a lot of these guys should be glad that they didn't play back in the day... Some of the people that I played with would have been looking to feed Jordan an elbow some time "within the flow of the game". Why? Because they know as I do... Contact like that doesn't just happen.

Ouch, feel bad for the guy. Fractured cheek bone can make eating an absolute chore.
Never realize how awesome it is to be able to eat normally until you cannot.

I haven't seen the video yet, so I will abstain from judging Jordan for the time being. Things always do look more "intentional" in slow-motion though.
