Tebow's big problem

08:02 AM ET 11.08 | Thanks to a monster hit from Vince Wilfork while he was a quarterback with the Denver Broncos, Tim Tebow came to a possibly disastrous conclusion after his ribs were broken by the 325-pounder. Though he already was among the NFL's biggest quarterbacks, he had to get even bigger. Over the subsequent nine months, Tebow has added a dozen pounds of muscle, but the extra armor has done him little good this season with the Jets. ... [The] Jets have used Tebow so infrequently that they have put his future at quarterback in doubt -- a predicament he may have helped himself into by outgrowing the position. That is, at 6 feet 3 and 250 pounds, Tim Tebow may be too big to be an effective NFL quarterback.

"Tim Tebow may be too big to be an effective NFL quarterback." Yeah, that's why.

November 8, 2012  08:08 AM ET

Wasn't he already categorized as not being an effective quarterback before adding the poundage?

At 6'5" and 900 pounds, T. Jackson was too big to be an effective NFL QB.

It's pretty hard to be effective if you never get off the bench....

Tebow to the Jest ... I still don't understand what they were thinking.

Only at halftime.

They could have used him to plug a subway tunnel in New York and avoid a lot of flood damage.

And at 250 pounds, he still gives away 75 to Vince Wilfork.

November 8, 2012  08:36 AM ET

It's his weight? Not his horrid throwing mechanism? Not his lack of pocket presence? Not his lack of QB intelligence? Not his lack of arm strentgth? Thanks for finally identifying Timmy's problem SI!

Breaking news from SI: "Tebow's douchy facial hair get in his way of being a effective quarterback."

He gives away about 75 IQ points to Vince Wilfork, too.

Vince is an intelligent and articulate guy. He's a favorite on the post-game interview shows.

November 8, 2012  08:48 AM ET

Oh come on. Vince Young and Cam Newton are just as big, or bigger, and both were effective (I know that's debatable, but it wasn't their size that hurt them). Instead of bulking up to take a hit, maybe Tebow should learn to release the ball a little quicker to avoid the hit in the first place.

Move him to tight end and fullback, he could still be used in the wildcat also.

QUOTE(#16):

Bulking up is a good idea. Phil Simms was OFTEN injured during his first 5 NFL seasons. He says lifting weights and getting stronger helped him become more durable afterwards.

bulking up didnt help McNabb that much or Culpepper.. I would actually say the added weight hurt them later on in their careers.
