08:27 AM ET 11.09 | Obviously wearing the bull's-eye would be Scott Gomez, with Rick DiPetro, Vincent Lecavalier and any number of high-priced players in the mix, too. According to several reports, amnesty buyouts are something that the NHL owners are trying to negotiate into the new collective bargaining agreement. And why wouldn't they? A main reason for this lockout is to rectify the million-dollar mistakes made owners and general mangers and to put in provisions to prevent them from making future errors. ... Following the 2004-05 lockout, teams were given six days to terminate and buy out contracts. Close to 14 players lost their jobs as a result. This time, there could be many, many more.

With a "make whole" provision why would the Lightning pay Vinny not to play? Obviously the players wont be taking a haircut on these buyouts.

They left out "and half the TOR roster".

Funny how Scotty is the first player mentioned.

Only half BGD? That's very magnanimous of you.

Thing about the Leafs roster is that most guys' contracts will be up by the end of the 2013-14 season. Only guys signed longer than that are Liles, Grabovski and JVR.

They do, however, need to start thinking about trading Kessel. Of course that means Burke has to swallow his pride and realize he won't get the same return he gave up for him (sorry I insulted everybody's intelligence by even stating that), but he's not re-signing here, he isn't working out here, he simply does not fit any dynamic that the current and soon-to-be roster of the Leafs is working towards.

He would be the poster boy for a NHL amnesty buyout.

But Danny I've been looking forward to watching Staypuff and Handy Randy get along. I'm thinking something like K-Y Jelly and sand.

Mitt Romney and beer.

Wouldn't be great though to be considered the most overpaid person in your line of work. Now that's a high class problem.

Another good one Danny.

Thanks for quoting my utterly disgustingly offensive comment that the mods deleted.

I wonder if grape jelly and sand is okay? ;-)

A newbie slammed them this morning. They're going to be on the warpath.

This only works if the owners don't give out contracts like this anymore. Otherwise, we are back here with the same issues when this CBA expires.

Jeff Finger would agree but he just came off the books this season......

They should have used Rickety's Pic...

But if they lose that contract - the Isles are gonna have a very tough time getting to the Cap floor.

I think the Amnesty clause is a no-brainer. The owners should actually push for a an Amnesty every 3 to 5 years.

You serious ?? He's only your most talented player...fast as hell and has a good shot too.

If Vinnie can be downsized there will be a feeding fenzy for him. Maybe get him revitalized with a trade.

Sorry about that, it's not my fault that I actually proof read what I saw. I'm sure the Interns forgot their mainlined caffeine this morning, that's all.

I actually do like reading these threads, all the witty banter herein is actually dulling the pain of yet another shortened (if not, lost) and finally got the stones to participate.

Anyway, even with this amnesty, it certainly won't make owners anymore intelligent unless they curtail the reckless spending and ridiculous length of contracts that they do in the off-season, unless I have it wrong

Komisareks a joke..he should be bought out regardless if there's an amnesty thing brought in...guy cant even consistently crack the roster...even when he does he's a circus out there.
