Chip Kelly to NFL if Oregon wins national championship

04:01 AM ET 11.10 | It appears, according to those close to Kelly and the University of Oregon, if the Ducks win the National Championship this year, it will be followed by Kelly's inevitable move to the pros. This year Kelly would be a top candidate for possible gigs with the Eagles, Panthers, Chargers, Jets, Cowboys and Saints, to name a few. The Browns will be looking to start their new era with a fresh new face and Kelly's status will be heavily aided by how well Greg Schiano does from here on out in Tampa. Kelly's nest job won't hinge on Schiano's rookie success, but if he can take the rag-tag Buccaneers and make them respectable, more high profile teams like the Cowboys, Saints and Chargers might give Kelly a more serious look. Could you imagine Cam Newton in a Chip Kelly offense? There's no saying Kelly will be a success in the NFL but he's got his eyes set on the jump, and it's only a matter of time before it happens.

They seem to perform better under demanding taskmasters. No more nice guys in Big D.

Maybe JJ will make himself HC. Hell he could just fire everybody and be a one man show

He's got a good thing going in Oregon. He might just want to stay put.

If he's waiting to win the national championship before leaving for the NFL, he could be at Oregon for a while yet.

He will do a Pete and wait for the NCAA to get serious about investigating violations and then he will bolt. I know he was hoping Oregon would pass the legalization of pot so his players could honestly say they didn't break any laws... but only Washington and Colorado players can get away with that excuse.

What a silly rumor - someone is just trying to direct recruits away from Oregon. Kelly has a really good thing going in Oregon - what the heck sense would it make to go to the NFL? He has more money than he'll ever want, a rich sugar-daddy who gives the program whatever it needs, he wins 90% of his games, he is absolutely adored by the fans, and he has job security for life. If he went to the NFL, he'd have far more stress, have to hear far more hate, have to deal with guys who would give him far more crap, would probably have to move his home more than once, and almost certainly get fired sooner or later. It would be a pretty poor decision.

Yes...you make many valid points, but there is one really strong point on the other side.
It's gotta be tough for a grown man to have to kiss the butts of 17 and 18 year old kids to get them to come to his program. Don't have to do this in the NFL. Although as Kelly becomes more and more established at the collegiate level, recruiting will fall more and more on the shouldrs of his assistants.

You would have to do more than kiss NFL player's butts! They get payed way more than college players. If you are not using them because they will not "buy into the system" (becasue the corresponding conditioning is a lot of work) (Remember the old, "you talkin' about PRACTICE?") then manaagement is all over your case for wasting you money.... No, a cllege dynasty with a "athletic supporter supreme" arouind is way beetter that an NFL gig with tade bait babies who will not put out.

Becasue they can't just drop the rubes off scholarship or suspend them. Which NFL team is going to practice at full speed Thurs/Fri for a Sunday game? The dog will not hunt at that level.

Actually there is no reason for Chip to leave Oregon, even if he wins the NC. I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to end up like Saban and be a failure as a HC in the NFL!!!
