Los Angeles Dodgers targeting Kevin Youkilis

04:18 AM ET 11.10 | Teams are already getting unnerved by Los Angeles' seemingly bottomless pockets, an annoyance that has rival GMs, who are looking to court Kevin Youkilis, nervous that Los Angeles will simply outbid everyone else for the services of the former Red Sox and White Sox corner infielder. So far, the Phillies, White Sox, Cubs and Indians have all mentioned interest in Youkilis, but the Dodgers are now a late addition to the race. Youkilis will come to Los Angeles under a certain set of circumstances: if Cruz becomes the Dodgers' new super-utility man, Hanley Ramirez moves to shortstop and the club sends Dee Gordon to Triple-A. So far, Ramirez is going to start at shortstop next year and Cruz works better as the lead utility man for the Dodgers moving forward. And as has been established, money is not an issue for the Dodgers.

The only problem with that being he doesn't hit the ball that often.

The Dodgers seem determined on winning the 2008 World Series.

the dodgers need to fortify their offense, and we all knoe this franchise will be throwing money like crazy,,,there are trades that could bring that offense to the dodgers blue,, justin upton/BJ UPTON/JACOBY ELSBURY,,

this team could and should be a hard team to beat, can't compete without any efforts, plus the team has won the rights for the rookie korean pitcher,RYU, this would be a very interested rotation in dodgers blue, kuroda/,kershaw/ryu/ and there are more than 3 other top starters in the dodgers rotation,,,

I guess I liked Cruz better than LA does--I would like to see him in the lineup every day. Youkilis doesn't hit the ball very often any more, and the fences are a long ways away in LA. This would be a poor move for the LA offense.

Defensively Youkilis has been below average at 3B for a few years; I suspect that has to do with his back not letting him play they way he used to. Cruz is a better defender now and Cruz is likely to improve with age, while Youk is at that stage where getting older means getting worse.

Anyone other than me think the Dodgers will be a hot mess in about 2 years?

November 10, 2012  04:02 PM ET

The Dodgers are going after all the bright shiny objects just like the Marlins did last year. We'll see how it works out for them.

November 10, 2012  04:20 PM ET

the dodgers DO have what it takes to be a tough team in the big leagues, except they haven't been able to put a serious and competetive roster in their team, the blue team needs, a conssistent manager, the pitching coach should be replaced not that he lacks in knowledge but as a pitching coach still hesitant to make the right calls as a pitching coach!!!

if the dodgers keep intact their managerial elements, and keep the current pitching coach, things would get worse rather than better, but if the franchise make a few changes in their managerial elements i can predict a better team, more conssistent at any tough game, better pitching better rotation, and the hitting spot just got much better!!!!

dodgers need to spend wisely, they can't just sign any player, rather they need to add the right chemistry, the right strategy, with the right people at the front seat, this team could pull together in a season or two!!!

With his movie-star looks, Youk is a natural fit for Los Angeles...

I wish I had a witty retort and I don't but that comment cracked me up.
