Labor talks reportedly end with tense exchanges

09:17 AM ET 11.10 | Any mounting optimism from four straight days of labor talks between the NHL and NHLPA seemed to abate as negotiations went sour between the two sides Friday. Multiple sources told ESPNNewYork.com that Friday's evening session ended with some tense exchanges across the table between some of the players and some owners in attendance, as well as NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. And although progress was made on revenue sharing and some non-core economic issues, there remains a stark divide on the issues that have polarized the two sides since talks began this summer.

Good ol' make whole provision again. Fehr is digging in and the players seem to be supporting him. Bit like a game of poker really, who's gonna blink? NHL feeling the pressure from the sponsors and networks. The longer things drag on, the less attractiveness the NHL will have as a brand. Three lockouts make the advertisers think twice about where they will spend their money. I'd give the advantage to the players at the moment. Bettman's value as a commish is well into negative territory. The effect will be felt long after he's gone!!
