Red Sox leery of acquiring Shin-Soo Choo

11:33 AM ET 11.11 | Shin-Soo Choo has been often linked to the Red Sox, but it still seems like a long shot that Boston would risk dealing for him knowing that Choo, like Jacoby Ellsbury, is a year away from free agency and is represented by Scott Boras. For the Sox to take a chance, they may have to know that they could sign him long-term.

the rangers would have a tough outfielders, justin upton LF/jacoby ellsbury CF/ plus the other outfielders ,rangers already have in their roster should be more than enough!!!

The biggest character rap on Shin-Soo Choo is his drunken driving arrest in May of 2011 (0.2% BAC).
As for trading Ellsbury for Choo, that makes no sense. Both are owned by Borass. Both are free agents next year. Both now play outfield. And while both are injury prone, Ellsbury's injuries are due to field collisions. Choo was plunked twice which put him on the DL, but that doesn't account for lower back and hamstring injuries.
A dumb story. Next!

Lol needed one more cup of coffee.
I can see the Red Sox signing a FA for a 1 or 2 year contract while they wait for a minor leaguer to develop, but I have a hard time seeing them trading anything for an aging veteran on a short contract. (Unless they still have a player they want to dump, that is, but I think they are done with that phase.)

I just now realized that the story isn't suggesting Boston would trade Ellsbury for Choo. Rather they're both in the same position, which makes them next to useless as long-term prospects.
That said... I don't see Boston acquiring him. The down side outweighs any upside. Instead I see them investing heavily for 2014, with any success in 2013 being strictly serendipity. That mindset takes Choo off the table.
