Could Mike Holmgren end up with the Dallas Cowboys?

11:50 PM ET 11.11 | When Mike Holmgren left the Browns last month, he didn't rule out a return to coaching. And according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the rumors are already starting to fly as to where Holmgren could end up (i.e. the Dallas Cowboys). Holmgren, who is finishing up a disappointing three-year run as the Browns' team president, has said he would consider a return to coaching, where he already has a case for potential Hall of Fame induction. Some sources who know Holmgren well believe Dallas is the one potential opening that would truly interest him, given the competitiveness of the roster, the skill players present and his long relationship with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Holmgren and Jones worked closely together for more than a decade on the NFL's Competition Committee. If the perfect scenario does not arise, sources close to Holmgren expect him to retire. It's interesting that Dallas has come up as Holmgren's preferred choice, given the fact that Jason Garrett is currently the head coach there and few "official" signs have been given that he will be let go at the end of the season.

With Holmgren on board Romo could live up to the full Favrian standard of possibly winning 1 SB.

The Cowboys need to try something different. Get that mojo back again somehow.

Won't work out... too much overlap in perceived responsibilities... JJ an owner who wants to be a coach and Holmgren a coach who has aspirations to control all aspects of football business.

Didn't work with the "TUNA" ... won't work with Holmgren either ...
the only hope the Cowboys have is if JJ removes himself from the operations and starts acting like a true owner ... not gonna' happen, so the woes shall continue

I don't think so either. This sounds like a made-for-the-media fairy tale.
Congratulations on your 'Boys stepping up to take that one last night.

Big Mike doesn't want to coach, he just wants to collect a check and enjoy drinks with little umbrellas in them.

No. Said it last week will say it one last time. I think the Cowboys are the team( read as will win) the NFC East this year. Garrett will be lauded for his patience and that is that.

OBD, told ya. The true failure of Andy Reid, backup QB never snaps with the team he will play with when needed

Well...
A win is a win. And any win over the Iggles is even sweeter.
It's still amazing to me that with everything this team has put itself through this season, if the Cowboys win their next two games (both home - versus CLE and WAS), they will be a half game against the Giants before the Giants hit the field again this season.
Thanks, Bengals!

They can have him. Anything would help give my Giants an edge. But they have to play better than losing like that to Cincy..

I just don't see this happening. Jerry won't allow any ego to supercede his own.

Holmgren would be a decent hire. I only see Mike coming on board as a "consultant" though.
He would only take over in a role like Parcells did if Garrett bombs the remainder of the season.

change is needed.... and a win over a weak philly team means little. dallas should win next week over the browns. then it starts getting interesting. if we can beat the skins we have a chance at a playoff spot - which saves garrett.
anything short of a playoff game and garrett is gone. don't think the giants are done yet and suggestions dallas will win the east seem distant. regardless, any change in HC position to a seasoned coach should be embraced as garrett is a weak coach, at best.

Felix Jones had a decent performance yesterday, but DeMarco Murray is sorely missed. If he comes back healthy, it'll take a lot of pressure off of Romo.
