08:06 AM ET 11.12 | Though turfed by the Red Sox, Bobby Valentine remains a busy man. Like him or detest him, no one can dismiss Valentine's passion for pitching in to society, be it workers for and victims of 9/11, to victims of Sandy's tragic fury, to foundations around the country. Has time separated him from baseball in 2013? Maybe. But as Bud Selig has wisely reached out and utilized Frank Robinson, Joe Torre, Tony La Russa and other giants of the game, he ought to bring Valentine into his circle. He will raise issues from a different lens. ... He can be a leader in the myriad of social issues and programs Selig tries to address. Put him in the room with Mark Shapiro, Torre, La Russa and the others in Selig's special committee, and he will make people think.

I just realized Peter Gammons wrote this article. I usually love his articles even though he is a shameless Sox homer but WTF is he thinking?

Bobby V belongs in the broadcast booth. He was really good in that role, or at least I thought so.

MLB would be making a huge mistake if they hired this guy in any capacity.

"'Other giants' of the game"????!!!! Are you serious? Bobby Valentine's name should never EVER be uttered in the same sentence as Frank Robinson, Joe Torre, and Tony La Russa. Valentine is simply a clown. Correct me if my memory is off, but did Torre or La Russa ever try to throw their coaching staffs under the bus when they knew they were about to be fired?

Although Bobby V is certainly an engaging and intelligent baseball person, he repeatedly exercises poor judgment in both his words and his actions. I can't see MLB or any other organization giving him a platform.
