NHL out until 2014-15?

08:23 AM ET 11.12 | The will-they-won't-they, back-and-forth nature of following the lockout certainly has some fans at a saturation point -- yet the updates run the gamut in terms of future predictions. The NHL won't play again until 2014-15. I heard that from more than one veteran, respected hockey person today in Toronto. The NHL will absolutely be back within a month. I heard that from more than one too. So which is it? Beats me. You think I can make sense of these people anymore? Nope. I've already been through trying to do an earnest examination of the issues in this whole stupid story. If you want to play, fine. If you don't want to play, fine. That's where I'm at, and I suspect I'm not alone.

Much as I don't like Fehr, I hate the Butt-plug even more. Fehr made public the owners' demands and they stink (well, consider the source...). When will the owners realize that the man hates hockey and will kill the league to satisfy his own demented principles? The Canadian teams shouldn't wait till 2014. They should start their own league and tell the Butt-plug to go fly a kite.

It's possible. I don't think the profitable owners are too pleased right now with how this is shaping up. Consider the impact a prolonged lockout has on sponsorships? TV deals? Their teams' current chances of deep playoff runs and the lost value in not having that happen because Bettman's being stubborn for the sake of teams that don't make money? If you're a sponsor, how attractive is brand NHL right now?

Hasn't this been the feeling of the fans since day one of the lockout?
As I saw before, Fehr is not the issue in my opinion, he's just another cog in a mill that seems to turn over nothing, the one constant has been Bettman (credit to Bettman Sucks Eh?). Until Bettman decides to wake up to himself, I doubt there will be a league to speak of by 2014-15. There will be an offshoot elsewhere touting the lost talent pool of the NHL soon enough, I suspect.

This has already gone on much longer than I thought the owners and players would dare allow without losing us fans.

This season is over...neither side seams to really care about the future ramifications of a lockout....agree with Stranger, Canadian teams, start yhour own league....at least those of us down here that miss hockey can actually watch a top quaility game......go for it........

Seriously, if they blow up this season and next, they might as well fold the league. Someone else will start a professional league.

I have a feeling a lot of folks are in that category.
Personally, I wish (but don't have much hope right now) that someone would start the effort for a new league. Might happen. The NFL went with non-union players (scabs) in I believe 1983. Lasted only 3 weeks. While I agree that Bettman is a jerk, the owners (majority) allow it. But, it costs me nothing. AHL, have a great year.

I may be totally off base here, but didn't NBC just renew the contract with the NHL and give them all the money up front? If I'm correct, that was a huge mistake on their part. It would be great if they could get it back or just invalidate the contract. That would be that much less those loser owners would have lining their pockets right now. I am certainly not defending the players, as I think they are equally guilty in this mess. I was just wondering out loud. Maybe it really is time for Howard Baldwin to step up and start a new WHA?
