09:57 AM ET 11.12 | There are some rumors swirling late last night and early this morning that the Tennessee Volunteers have fired head coach Derek Dooley and that they plan on announcing the move after the game against Vanderbilt or Kentucky. The rumors began making the rounds on VolQuest. It is now widely believed that it is not a matter of "if" but "when" the announcement will be made that Dooley is no longer the team's head coach. The Volunteers are 4-6 on the season and are winless in their six SEC contests. At the end of the season, the Volunteers' head coaching job will be one of many head coaching vacancies in the Southeastern Conference. Tennessee, Arkansas and Kentucky are all but certain and it's possible that Gene Chizik could be on his way out at Auburn.

...and he'll be replaced by???

Gruden? Petrino? Not many suitable candidates out there. The UT faithful need to get past the fact that their Vols will not compete for the NC every year. I'd have given Dooley at least another year, probably two.

Agreed, EWO. Tin Man also pointed out that UTk would have to pay the remainder of DD's contract as well, so firing him becomes a double whammy to the Vols' FB program.

I think all these long high paying contracts are starting to catch up to some of them. Maybe it will change and then they have to prove on the field first before they get the gravy and long terms.

If your game is at the swamp this year, you still might win, just a lot closer than it would have been at your house.

and then you can start blaming him for USC's failures. :-)

Here's the list out of Knoxville, at least what I've heard, since I have so many insiders talking to me:

1. Gruden is choice 1-10 but he isn't coming. Plain and simple, I don't know who ever thought this was really happening. Probably wants 10 mil a year.
2. Al Golden
3. Charlie Strong
4. Gary Patterson
5. Jimbo Fisher
6. Dan Mullen

Nah ... Actually, I still don't have a problem with LK, in general. BUT Dad and "Tampa 2" HAVE to go! Otherwise I might start to have a problem with LK. heh heh
