08:09 AM ET 11.13 | Boston has its eye on a nice fit to fill a clear hole in the lineup. The Red Sox are in the market for a first baseman, and they appear to be zoned in on one in particular. Mike Napoli was not given a qualifying offer by the Rangers, and is therefore a free agent. Last year was a bit of a down year, as Ross hit just .227, but in 19 games at Fenway Park, Ross is a .306 hitter with seven home runs and 17 RBI. He's also got an OPS of 1.106 Sean McAdam was on SportsNet Central to talk about the Sox interest. "I think they're quite serious and I think they have been since the end of the season where he was a guy that they had targeted as someone who could come in and play first base and perhaps catch some."

You already have three catchers under contract for next year and now thinking about bringing in another and a so call first baseman. If this happens one of the two that where there last year will go back to the minors and the other one traded and the Sox defense at first base will really suffer.

Yeah, Napoli can play first, but he's not very good down there.

It's kind of a scary thought if the Red Sox plans are for Napoli to play the majority of his games at 1B.

If you bat Napoli behind Ortiz, you'll have some serious slow feet on the bases.

No worse than Agone and Youk.

Napoli is way slower than both.

mods can't even copy and paste right...the original article correctly identifies Napoli as hitting just .227....not cody ross.

I've never see a baseball player not named Moilia, slower than Agone. He made Ortiz look like Elsbury running around the bases.

AGone won't win any track meets, that's for sure. There's a reason he plays first base.
